Back to School Teacher Facebook Contest Guide

Back to School Teacher Facebook Contest Guide

Back to School is a stressful time for parents and teachers. Teachers often spend their own personal money on their classrooms - show your appreciation to teachers by running this Facebook contest to give them a gift card to help towards classroom costs. The best way to run this contest is as a prize draw – all names submitted get put into a ‘hat’ and you choose winners from that.

STEP 1: Create your Facebook Post

Use the video provided and write a post including the following information:
  1. When the contest is running
  2. How many gift cards you’re planning to give away & the amount
  3. Rules (i.e. Like the post, comment with teacher’s name, school and grade. Winners will be randomly selected.)

Sample Post from Tutor Doctor of the Emerald Coast
NEW TEACHER CONTEST! Preparing for back to school is stressful and can be costly. Tutor Doctor of the Emerald Coast wants to help teachers in Bay County again. We will be awarding TWO teachers a $250 gift card of their choice to help offset the cost of preparing their classroom for the beginning of school.
How to enter: LIKE THE POST AND COMMENT with the teacher’s name, school and grade. YOU MUST DO BOTH. Please only add one teacher's name per comment. Winners will be randomly selected. Contest ends this Friday at 8pm.

STEP 2: Boost Your Facebook Post

Once you’ve posted your contest post, follow these steps to boost your post:
  1. Click the blue Boost Post button on the post. If the button is faded and un-clickable, learn more about why your boost is unavailable.
  2. Select the audience you'd like to reach. We recommend ‘People who have liked your page and their friends’
  3. Select your budget. We recommend $10-$30.
  4. Choose a duration option, or type in a custom end date next to Run this ad until. We recommend 5 days.
  5. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking Boost.
  6. Click Boost.

STEP 3: Monitor the Contest

Monitor the post over the time you’re running the contest and keep track of teacher names for the prize draw. Make sure to interact with people commenting on your post by at least liking their comments – we recommend replying to their comments.

STEP 4: Announce Winners

Announce the winners on your Facebook Page & thank everyone who nominated a teacher.

STEP 5: Post about delivering winner’s gift cards

When delivering your gift vouchers, take photos with the teacher and post these photos on your Facebook Page. This is a great way to showcase your participation with schools and the local community.

TOP TIP: Take marketing collateral (recruitment & consumer), the ASF book, bookmarks etc. with you when you deliver the gift cards.

How to Upload the Video for Your Post

  1. When you go to post, add your video. Add your post text.

  2. THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT IN ORDER FOR YOUR VIDEO TO BOOST.

In order for videos to be boosted the thumbnail of the video must comply with Facebook’s 20% text rule.
