About Your DBA & URL
DBA
- A DBA stands for “Doing Business As” and is used as the name of your franchise.
- A DBA is comprised of the name “Tutor Doctor” in conjunction with a predetermined location name that is chosen by the marketing team via a comprehensive selection process. This makes the format of a DBA name “Tutor Doctor [Location].”
- Home Office reserves the right to select a DBA name that is fair for all franchisees. A few rules to keep in mind:
- Your DBA name is representative of only your owned territory.
- Your DBA name will include a direction (North, East, Southwest, etc.) if you do not own the entirety or majority of the location name that is selected.
- A DBA name is not an exhaustive list of areas within your territory. We use many different methods of determining the most fitting name based on data (ZIP/Postal code ownership, examining search trends, etc.) If other areas of your territory being reflected are a concern, those will show on your website and Google Business Profile.
- If you own multiple territories, we will go through the same process to determine your DBA name. However, we will consider all of your owned territories when choosing a name. Your DBA still must abide by the above rules in a case like this.
URL
- Your URL is based on your DBA name. The URL will also change based on the country or region that you own a franchise in.
- Your local URL (to be used on marketing materials) will be formatted like the following:
- US/CAN: tutordoctor.com/location
- UK: tutordoctor.co.uk/location
- AUS: tutordoctor.com.au/location
- South Africa: tutordoctor.co.za/location
- Your URL may be “opposite” to your DBA if there is a direction in your name. This is because search engines crawl left to right, so we want to ensure that your location name is front and center.
- Example: If your DBA is “Tutor Doctor North Toronto”, your URL would be tutordoctor.com/toronto-north
- If you own multiple territories, your website URL may differ.
- If your territories are touching on a map, we may recommend one website.
- If your territories do not touch on a map, we may recommend multiple websites.
Home Office reserves
the right to finalize all Tutor Doctor franchise location DBA and URL by

DBA & URL Determination Process
Step 1: To get the most accurate information on your protected territory, we review the information from the territory directory on the areas you own.
Step 2: We use the world territory mapping tool to ensure we select all the locations (city/town names) you own and those which best represent your territory.
Step 3: We then check the city/town names’ performance on Google Trends.
What is Google Trends?
Google Trends is a tool
created by Google that analyzes the popularity of top search queries in Google
Search across various regions. We use the website to compare the search volume of different queries over
time in different locations. Based on the results we select the best performing
location on Google Trends.
Example: A Tutor Doctor franchise territory includes the following 4
locations (cities/towns) as part of one or multiple territories:
Step 4: We then look at the postal codes owned in great detail, and compare those to the overall number of postal codes present in the areas that we are considering using in the name.
Step 5: Considering all of the above information and steps that have been taken, we choose the best name for your territory that makes sense in terms of actual territory ownership, search trends, and taking into account franchisees in the greater network.
Based on all of the above, the URL for this location will be tutordoctor.com/mississauga and DBA will be Tutor Doctor Mississauga.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is my DBA or URL?
Please check your email for a message from
marketing@tutordoctor.org. Your DBA and URL will be in the message with the subject line “Your Tutor Doctor DBA and URL!”
Why is my URL different than my DBA?
In some cases, you may have a DBA name that encompasses a direction if you do not own the entirety of the area. We reverse the direction in the URL for Google, as search engines crawl left to right.
In the example given above, the DBA "Tutor Doctor East Mississauga" would be assigned the URL tutordoctor.com/mississauga-east.
